Up at t he crack of dawn and back on the road brings us nearly up to speed. As luck would have it the College of Notre Dame was mere miles from where we had laid our weary heads, so off 80 and through another toll booth (they get you coming and going every time) we turned left into the gate just as the sun started to rise over Jesus. "I found Jesus" Alec declared. That and a HUGE professional sized football stadium.
ND is much like USC; spotlessly clean, brick with statues of saints and sports stars mixed together. Its very impressive, as the royalty of Catholic colleges should be. We had fun walking through campus. A few joggers, construction workers with lunch pales and us rounded out the population of the place. Too bad we hadn't set up our tent trailer there! Would have slept much better.
